margin: 0px; text-align: left; position: relative;\" data-mobile-css=\".sp-text-wrapper-w6f9iw, #sp-w6f9iw, #w6f9iw|text-align:left;\" data-tablet-css=\".sp-text-wrapper-w6f9iw, #sp-w6f9iw, #w6f9iw|text-align:left;\" data-mobile-visibility=\".sp-text-wrapper-w6f9iw|false\" data-tablet-visibility=\".sp-text-wrapper-w6f9iw|false\" data-desktop-visibility=\".sp-text-wrapper-w6f9iw|false\">\n<p>I&#8217;m told the life<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve breathed through<br \/>\nmakes me no different to<br \/>\na woman with no womb and<br \/>\na penis.<br \/>\nThe screams and blood and endless vomit<br \/>\nas my body<br \/>\nretched itself into womanhood &#8211;<br \/>\nis just one version of events<br \/>\nnothing special, nothing categorisable &#8211;<br \/>\nindivisible from balls dropping and<br \/>\nbroken voices.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m told the sex, of my sex<br \/>\nwhich splits me in two<br \/>\nputs my head down the loo for three months<br \/>\nholds me hostage for nine<br \/>\ndrinks my very blood<br \/>\npossibly kills me<br \/>\nrenders me a milk churn<br \/>\nlatches to my breast for a year or more and<br \/>\nholds us bound, forever, to another &#8211;<br \/>\nmakes no difference to what <em>we are<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m told this body, which brings forth<br \/>\nAll Life &#8211;<br \/>\nmakes us no more woman<br \/>\nthan Sheila, formally known as <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">B<\/span>o<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">b<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m told this later change<br \/>\nthis neutering of my soul, this dying<br \/>\nof my seed<br \/>\nin volcano flashes and pitted aches<br \/>\nso deep as to bury me alive<br \/>\ngives us no special right to the term woman &#8211;<br \/>\nno heritage.<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s no <em>special<\/em> loss.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m told I&#8217;m no more a woman<br \/>\nthan Bob, now he&#8217;s a Sheila.<br \/>\nAnd with that &#8211;<br \/>\nafter 5 minutes an established fact &#8211;<br \/>\nI&#8217;m told as a girl<br \/>\njust as I realise being a woman<br \/>\nis not the easiest ride in the world<br \/>\nthat I don&#8217;t have to be a woman at all.<br \/>\nThat ripping out and cutting off<br \/>\n<em>potential<\/em><br \/>\nmakes like it was never there;<\/p>\n<p>\nand we&#8217;re not supposed to care.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It can get more dull, queer<br \/>\nand convoluted<br \/>\nif you don&#8217;t mind your language<br \/>\nbeing hung, drawn and polluted.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;..But I fall back into<br \/>\nthis held space<br \/>\nmy hand a cradle for <em>your<\/em> neck<br \/>\n<em>your<\/em> mouth where you and I connect<br \/>\nthis sacred place<br \/>\nwhere I breathe <em>your<\/em> breath.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We are two from one<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>I am woman.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Alexandra McCauley<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>1st April 2024<\/em><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><em>Published in Scotland i<\/em><em>n response to Police Scotland&#8217;s Don&#8217;t Feed Hate campaign and the launch of the Scottish Government&#8217;s Hate Crime Act<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"sp-isod0l\" class=\"sp-spacer\" style=\"height: 12px;\" data-mobile-css=\"#sp-isod0l|height:40px;\" data-tablet-css=\"#sp-isod0l|height:10px;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tweet Woman I&#8217;m told the life I&#8217;ve breathed through makes me no different to a woman with no womb and a penis.
